MIDLEGO REGIONAL AIRPORT
STATION 7
The MIdlego Regional Airport until October 1, 2011 had their own fire protection. With the start of a new
fiscal year for Midlego as well as the airport, it was decided to merge the 2 departments, and have all
personnel on the same benefit package, as well as increase the crew size at the airport from 4 to 8 at all
times. With this it brought more experience to the airport in both medical and fire suppression, as they run
an annual call volume of around 40 calls per year. The airport now has 2 paramedics onboard each unit as
well as the ability to respond outside of the airport as the FAA requirement stated they must keep 4 men at
the airport at all times. This will also mean the City of Midlego will be able to get Federal grants much easier
showing they are the sole provider of medical and fire suppression to the airport.
Due to the small size of aircraft traffic and the fact that the airport responds outside of the airport now, all
personnel use structural fire protective clothing and the entry team wears an approach apron when making
entry to a burning aircraft.
